Delving into the Rococo archives we found this picture of Chantal as a little nipper being read a story by her dad, surrounded by her brother Robin and sister Clare.
The photo is marked as Christmas Day and was probably taken around 1960. Chantal’s father was a consultant specialising in tropical medicine, and the family moved frequently. This snap was taken in Borneo, where they lived until Chantal was 2 or 3 years old. She was too young to remember much about Borneo but says that it’s unlikely they had a traditional British Christmas dinner in the tropics as they had a Chinese cook.
Chantal grew up surrounded by books. She doesn’t know what her father was reading here (perhaps a new Christmas book?) but has many happy memories of him reading to them, something he always enjoyed.
