London to Paris by Bike to raise funds for BuildAfrica: Practice run to Dover

Counting down now, till the off at 6am.

This was on Sunday when we cycled up to Dover just to get a feel for the lie of land, tho it was a small ride, from Deal over the cliffs at St Margarets and back. The day before we had stopped at Canterbury (drove there by Rococo van). Had coffee with our lovely PR Britta, and then made our way to the “Crab & Winkle” trail. It seems that they used to have a small railway running between Whitstable and Canterbury to take the shellfish – and the terrain was a bit too hilly for the trains, so it was abandoned. Now a lovely cycle track – then from Whitstable, where we dodged through the Oyster Festival and out onto the Viking Coastal Trail – which sweeps along the coast, through Herne Bay, along to Margate and all the way around to Ramsgate and Pegwell Bay – we met James there on his bike and continued to Deal – tho most of the track was not on the coast. A good 6 hour ride. A very slow lunch at Reculver – I would recommend going on further next time and trying out some of the hostelleries in Broadstairs or Margate.

Not sure how much sleep I will get tonight, it feels a bit like we are going to catch one of those ghastly ryanair early flights, but will be good to get on the road really early for this BIGGEST leg of the ride – about 95miles/150k to Dover – over a lot of hills.

Can’t wait to get going…

London to Paris cycle ride on 27th July. I would really appreciate it if you sponsored me – a fiver would be brilliant, I know that there are lots of demands all the time. My page is http://www.justgiving.com/chantal-coady
