Millie Coady Booth
Milly explains aged 12 explains :

“I was really inspired to cycle from Paris to London because last year in the summer my brother and mum cycled from London to Paris for a charity (Build Africa). It is a really good challenge and a chance to meet new people or consolidate old friendships. It’s a really good way to get fit and to challenge your limits! I also loved when we were training for the big ride, that we got to see so much of the English countryside and when we’re there in Paris some French scenery! I chose Arts 4 Dementia because Judy Greenwood is a really good friend and when we heard about Arts 4 Dementia helping people with art I was so inspired to help and because I love the arts so much! We will carry all our own things, and mend our own punctures – we are not camping, so the load could be worse! The route is from Paris to Dieppe, some of it on the Voie Verte, which is part of the anticipated Avenue Verte and then to Newhaven and back to London on the Cuckoo Trail … Every penny of your donations goes straight to Arts 4 Dementia, as we have funded the trip with our own money”.

Donna Wilson has teamed up with Rococo Chocolates to produce this delicious range of hand-painted Easter eggs, available at SCP. Rococo is a maverick in the sometimes stuffy world of luxury chocolate, their three London stores decked out with Botticelli cherubs, pink walls and exquisite products and packaging. Donna’s idiosyncratic designs are hand-painted onto white and dark chocolate eggs, some are stuffed with chocolates, some are even inside bone china eggcups.

Annie in ApeThe British chocolate company which currently only has shops in London’s exclusive Belgravia, Chelsea and Marylebone, opened its doors as a concession within the luxury hotel on Monday.

The new venture has created four full and part time jobs with manager Annie McNicholl at the helm. It’s a welcome return for Annie who’s worked at The Chester Grosvenor on and off for more than a decade. Annie, 46, from Chester, said:

“It’s nice to be back at The Chester Grosvenor and to be part of this exciting new concession. I can’t wait to introduce Chester to Rococo.”

Chocolate lovers will be able to take part in special chocolate tasting sessions held at the concession after hours and Rococo chocolate will be featuring in gourmet lunches and dinners held in the Michelin-starred restaurant ‘Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor’.

The new La Brasserie menu features treats for chocolate lovers with a special Rococo ‘chocolatte’, made with Rococo cocoa and hot milk, and a ‘chocolate shot’ made with 70% dark chocolate cocoa and water to create the chocolate equivalent of an espresso.

The new chocolatier is part of an ambitious project which has seen the much-loved La Brasserie undergo a multi-million pound refurbishment and reconfiguration to allow the concession to open for business at the front of the restaurant on Eastgate.

workshop

Rococo Educational team would like to introduce you to our fun chocolate workshops for children aged 8-11, at the Motcomb St shop where chocolate is brought to life and they can enter the magical world of Rococo Chocolates. This workshop has been designed exclusively for schools.

We touch on key curriculum topics such as geography, maths, nutrition, art, science and history. Each class consists of approximately 12 children, plus one teacher. We go through the chocolate process from bean to bar, how chocolate is grown and farmed, show them cocoa nibs and cocoa butter and discuss the process of harvesting and creating chocolate, as well as the health benefits that good quality chocolate can have. We even make chocolate from scratch, where the children are able to add cocoa butter, nibs and sugar to a machine, and see the process for themselves! We also play ‘Guess the Flavour’ with three/four different artisan bars (depending on how good they are!), followed by the chance to design their own chocolate bar wrapper, with ribbons, glue and other materials. The classes finish with a hot chocolate and a tasting session with the chocolate that they made earlier.

The cost of the classes is £15.00 per child, including raw materials, a goody bag to take home, an organic milk chocolate bar (for their beautiful wrappers!) and the hot chocolate.

Rococo Chocolates Launches New Website

Rococo’s new website has just been launched, providing customers with a more genuine experience of interacting with the company. The web storefront is modelled after the Motcomb Street shop so it is almost like going there!

Along with a more fun and interactive user experience, customers can now navigate through the site with clear categories representative of Rococo – for example, ‘Our Story’ is able explain to the customer what Rococo is all about, from 1983 to the present day. Rococo is not just three shops and an e-commerce site! They actually care, and that’s shown in the ‘How We Care’ section of ‘Our Story,’ which highlights their partnership with the Grenada Chocolate Company and their very own Grococo farm for ethical cocoa sourcing. Rococo thinks that videos are a great way to communicate to and engage the customer, so there are quite a few – you might enjoy the one on the ‘Our Story’ landing page.

In addition to browsing through the delights in ‘Shop!,’ you may also enjoy taking classes or holding events at the Rococo Chocolate School at Motcomb St. Key areas for the growing business, they get their own section in ‘Chocolate School Events.’ Who doesn’t love being hands-deep in chocolate?

From a technical standpoint, Rococo decided to use Amazon web services for the new e-commerce platform due to its advanced technology, robustness, and reputation for reliability and quality – this should optimise both front and back ends!

We hope you enjoy shopping at the Rococo web shop.

Chester Grosvenor MD Jonathan Slater

..by Rachel Flint

A MULTI-MILLION-POUND makeover will see a Chester hotel transformed into chocolate heaven in the new year.

In January the Chester Grosvenor, in Eastgate, will be closed to guests and staff for two weeks as work begins to transform the hotel entrance into a luxury chocolate shop.

The chocolatier, which will open its doors to the public in March, is being built as part of a £2m renovation at the City centre hotel, which will also see La Brasserie refurbished and a state-of-the-art kitchen built on the ground floor.

Managers at the Chester Grosvenor have heralded the chocolatier as a ‘vote of confidence’ for the city, as it will be the first time luxury British chocolate company Rococo has opened a shop outside London.

Jonathan Slater; managing director of the Chester Grosvenor, explained the chocolate – would be used across the hotel as executive chef Simon Radley creates chocolate-infused dishes in the restaurant and hot chocolate, is served in La Brasserie.

“Rococo is the perfect complement to la Brasserie and the hotel and we are thrilled to be welcoming them to the Chester Grosvenor,” said Mr Slater.

“Their chocolate is second to none and we are looking forward to introducing it to our guests, diners and Chester residents. A new business like this coming to Chester is a massive vote of confidence in the City.

“We never rest on our laurels here at The Chester Grosvenor. By spring next year we will have a new chocolatier tempting everyone, an exciting new look for La Brasserie and a kitchen par excellence for our gifted chefs to work in.”

The Chester Grosvenor will close from January 2-14. La Brasserie and Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor will be closed between January 2 and early March, however, food will be served in the Arkle Bar and Lounge on the first floor.
