Donna Wilson has teamed up with Rococo Chocolates to produce this delicious range of hand-painted Easter eggs, available at SCP. Rococo is a maverick in the sometimes stuffy world of luxury chocolate, their three London stores decked out with Botticelli cherubs, pink walls and exquisite products and packaging. Donna’s idiosyncratic designs are hand-painted onto white and dark chocolate eggs, some are stuffed with chocolates, some are even inside bone china eggcups.

Rococo Chester

Crowds gathered outside the city centre hotel as a chocolate bomb, complimentary truffles and a three-wheeler tuk-tuk style chocolate delivery van marked the opening of the chocolatier’s first branch outside of London.

Guests arriving at the hotel were greeted with parcels of luxury chocolates, while diners sipped at rich hot chocolate and chocolate shots in the newly refurbished La Brasserie, which was part of the £2m renovation project.

The chocolatier, which features a miniature steam train suspended from the ceiling telling the story of chocolate, has created four full and part-time jobs at the city centre hotel, with manager Annie McNicholl leading the team.

Annie, 46, who says she is delighted to be back at the hotel where she has worked on and off for more than a decade, added: “It’s nice to be back at The Grosvenor and to be part of this exciting new concession.

“I can’t wait to introduce Chester to Rococo.”

The new chocolate theme at the hotel will see guests and residents being able to take part in tasting sessions, and enjoy special chocolate dishes in the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor.

Chantal Coady, Rococo founder and creative director who joined staff serving customers, said that it was clear that Chester was a chocolate loving city.

She added: “I think it’s fair to say that Chester loves Rococo chocolate based on the crowds in the shop over the past 48 hours.

“It’s been a wonderful start for our new business. People have been coming in to say how beautiful they think the shop is and wishing us luck. The train has been a big hit with the children who come in to the shop too.”

eggs

Every year, as kids, we’d tumble down to the coast to hunt for Easter eggs at our grandparents’ house. In the garden, hidden amongst tree stumps and bushes were lovely local hens eggs each with a caricature of one of the ten grand children. The challenge was finding the eggs and identifying yours from the unlikely likeness and racing back to the house as quickly as possible to get it on to boil for breakfast.
This year as a special treat we will be hiding Madame Oiseau and Rococo handmade chocolate eggs and rabbits in our garden. And for breakfast Fenton Farm Eggs will no doubt be crudely drawn to depict our faces.

Boiled eggs followed swiftly by chocolate – some traditions are definitely worth keeping alive.

Madame Oiseau and Rococo chocolates and Fenton Farm Eggs are available to buy in both our shops.

owl and pussy

We’re major fans of Scot designer Donna Wilson whose eccentric knits on soft toys, homewares, furniture and accessories have generated a huge following around the globe for her instantly recognisable work.

Luxury chocolate makers Rococo have hand-painted a limited edition collection of eggs with her designs, with some on white chocolate and others on dark, and some with china egg cups and others in stunning gift boxes, plus some are filled with handmade chocolate ganaches.

Personally I love these so much, I think they’re for grown-up’s….
