Chantal Coady, proprietor of Rococo, was among the first of London’s new wave of artisanal chocolatiers. The first shop, which opened in 1983 in King’s Road, set the tone for the new breed: whimsical, beautiful and romantic -“a fantasy world,” says Coady. Rococo’s new flagship is in Belgravla, and has a Moroccan-style courtyard.
A self-taught chocolatier with a degree in textile design, Coady puts her artistic training to good use.”Painting and putting flavours together are quite similar,”she says.”l can ‘see’ flavours in my head, and then bring them together in the chocolate.” Rococo’s chocolate bars and truffles come in a range of flavours, from chilli pepper & cardamom to orange & geranium.
This Easter, chocolate-lovers can covet hand-painted, organic chocolate eggs, and Russian doll-style eggs-within -eggs.
