5 Motcomb Street, Belgravia | Chocolate Reviews

5 motcomb stI’ve reviewed a fair amount of Rococo chocolates in my time, from the Traffic Jam to their hand-painted Easter eggs and have loved the ingenuity of their creations ever since I experienced them. So, on my most recent trip to London I put them on the top of the list to pay a visit.

Location

As far as I’m aware they’ve got two stores, this one and one towards Regent’s Park. But the one I visited on 5 Motcomb is on a cute side street in Belgravia and only six minutes walk from Knightsbridge Tube Station, and 1.5 miles from Oxford Street Train Station. For most it won’t be totally central, but its still good enough, and worth visiting if you’re going to Harrods. You can also get their chocolates from Liberty’s. Score: 9/10

Appearance

From the outside it looks nice and quaint – with a table and chair situated by the door. The store is painted in a lovely dark blue and has golden writing (from memory). It’s tucked down a side street and fits fantastically well in to its surroundings. Score: 9/10

The Walk In

I was quite surprised when I walked in. The atmosphere was relaxed and engaging. It had the feeling of a cottage gift shop run by the W.I. – but that’s not a bad thing. I like to have a break from the pretence that some chocolate shops seem to have, and this was an oasis from that class of chocolate chosp. Of course Rococo is a quirky chocolate brand, but its a fun one that doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously. The complete lack of stuffiness was refreshing and put me in the buying frame of mind. Score: 9/10

Selection

The store wasn’t rammed with products like some are. But there was a lovely display of novelty items including chocolate made to look like asparagus spears, the chocolate cow that I’ve already got, some lovely looking nuts covered in chocolates and some other great looking chocolates. On the other wall there are a good selection of chocolate boxes and slabs whilst the counter is adorned with sumptuous truffles and ganaches. Score: 8/10

Staff

The young lady behind the counter was incredibly friendly and gave me a ganache to to try – which was great. She gently asked if she could help me as I circled their offering. She was engaging, relaxed and seemed genuinely interested in trying to help me find some chocolates that I’d find interesting. When I forgot my pin number we had a chuckle, and its this relaxed attitude that I find essential from a chocolate shop. Score: 10/10

Prices

Rococo aren’t cheap. But these chocolates aren’t ones you’ll find on any highstreet. I’ve never tried their ganaches or truffles (I should have remedied that on this trip) but I’d say that their prices are suitable for the uniqueness of their chocolates. Score: 7/10
