The delicate question of what Gordon and Sarah Brown should give world leaders and their wives as a gift at what is supposed to be a sober, austere economic summit will have troubled Number 10 for many weeks.
But it can now be revealed that the understated goodie bag will contain a men’s tie, a candle, some chocolate and a tea towel.
The Prime Minister and his wife will present the gifts, which will aim to showcase British creativity, at a Downing Street dinner on Wednesday evening on the eve of the G20 meeting in London.
There will be a candle from celebrity designer Kelly Hoppen. The chocolates are sourced from Rococo Chocolates, which is based on the Kings Road, and was founded by Chantal Coady.
